As the city of Baguio is about to welcome tourists from region 1, posted the highest number of COVID-19 infection in a day on Monday with 68 new cases.

The 68 new number of cases, so far the city’s highest in a day, spiked as one cluster in Lower Lourdes barangay registered additional 57 cases, also the highest number in a day for one cluster.

According to Mayor Benjie Magalong the 56 of those infected were police trainees staying in the area.

The good news is that all of the patients, old and new, and their contacts had long been isolated and quarantined thus had had no contacts from outside the place of infection since the first case was detected last Sept. 22.

The other 11 cases were also contacts of previous cases and part of other case clusters in households and barangays.

The new cases raised the number of active patients in Baguio to 373 the highest so far in the Cordillera region followed by the province of Benguet with 67.

Baguio is geographically located within Benguet.

The mayor reiterated that the city’s containment strategies on PDITR (Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate) are in place to address all cases.

Since August 12 the city’s COVID-19 cases started to surge and these have been attributed to the active testing of more sectors in the community.

As of Monday, Baguio had recorded 847 cases since the pandemic began. Twelve people have died from the disease, 462 recovered and 9,826 residents are now completing their 14-day quarantine.

Health authorities in the city again reminded local residents to adhere with the minimum health protocols.
