Zamboanga City – Thirty-nine samples coming from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients were sent to Metro Manila for genome sequencing to check for posible new Covid variant spreading in the city.

The City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor D. Miravite said, these 39 samples were sent last March 25, 2021 pending results.

Samples were sent to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) for genome sequencing.

With the increase of cases in the city of 40 to 50 Covid 19 cases a day, she said, “The illness is more transmissible.” Miravite said.

In the Philippines, currently there are three variants the United Kingdom (B117), South African variants (B1351), and Brazil variant (P1).
