17 NPA Rebels, Supporters Peacefully Surrender In Surigao Del Sur

    Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – Regional Task Force on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) fight resulted to the surrender of 17 Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members to Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office, Surigao del Sur, last May 14.

    Regional Director of Police Regional Office 13, Police Brigadier ROMEO M. CARAMAT JR., named the surrenderees as alias Bunso, a Periodic Status Report (PSR) Listed, and element of Squad 3, GF 30, NEMRC; alias Noah (PSR Listed) alias Irish of GF 19 Southland NEMRC; alias Darwin; alias Joe of Squad 1, GF 30 NEMRC; alias Rex, a Courier/Squad leader and alias Jun-jun of Squad 2, Platoon 8 GF 19B, NEMRC; alias Gaga and alias Ronel of SDS SPL under GF 19, SRC Southland, NEMRC; alias Dupas; alias Jesmar; alias Michael; alias Megs and alias Isid of SPL under GF 19, SRC Southland, NEMRC; alias Kadong and alias James, both Militia ng Bayan under GF 20, NEMRC; and alias Tantan, a former Bansay Mess Officer of Squad 1 in SYP Platoon GF19 Southland.

    The rebels also turned-over a unit of 7.62 AK-47 rifle with SN B104993; caliber 30 Carbine M1 rifle; caliber .45 pistol with SN 133429; caliber .45 pistol with SN 58537; caliber .45 1911 pistol without serial number; Smith & Wesson caliber .357 revolver without serial number; caliber .22 revolver without serial number; .38 caliber revolver with serial number 0546678 with five pieces live ammunition; four caliber .38 without serial number with eight live ammunition; caliber .45 with defaced serial number loaded with five live ammunition; two rifle grenades; four electric blasting caps; four NPA sweat shirts and subversive documents of intelligence value.

    One of them is an active member of NPA since the age of 17 and realized that the lives of his family are at stake. He decided to leave the communist terrorist group and returned to the fold of the government because of the continuous hardship, hunger and the deceitful promises of NPA leaders.

    They also expressed gratitude to the Police in Caraga region for helping them surrender peacefully, clear their names of their involvement to the communist groups and help them start anew.

    “The government’s campaign to end the local armed conflict has been gaining headway. We urged our Filipino brothers and sisters who are still actively fighting the government to lay down their arms and embrace other peaceful means to attain sought-after changes.” RD CARAMAT JR. stressed out.
