1,000 Seedlings Planted on Arbor Day in Surigao City

Organized by the Surigao del Norte Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), 1,000 seedlings were planted during the Arbor Day celebration at the Provincial Tree Park in Brgy. Ipil earlier today, June 19, 2024.

Participated by the Surigao City Environment & Natural Resources Office, 200 participants from various government agencies also joined the activity, including the Philippine National Police, Surigao City Police Station, BFP Caraga Surigao City Fire Station, BJMP Surigao CJ, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, CENRO, Provincial Capitol Employees, and members of the Surigao Guild of Environmentalists (SurGE).

Aligned with Provincial Ordinance No. 04, Series of 2015, this joint effort underscores Surigao City’s commitment to preserving the environment.

Maribuhok, Mahogany, and Mangium seedlings were planted which enhances local biodiversity and contributes to air purification, water conservation, and soil erosion prevention.

Arbor Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to sustain and protect our natural resources for future generations. The successful planting of 1,000 seedlings highlights the community’s dedication to building a sustainable urban environment in Surigao City. (Mark James Lisondra)
