The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) met with members of the local media to seek the latter’s support and cooperation in disseminating the private corporation’s safety and anti-pilferage programs.
The media event dubbed as Power 101 started with a run through of NGCP’s corporate profile and its role in the energy industry as the country’s sole transmission service provider that delivers power from generation sources to distribution utilities and large industries. It was held Friday, November 8 at a local hotel.
The private corporation, in particular, sought to collaborate with local media representatives in the wide dissemination of safety measures to prevent accidents at or near transmission towers and lines that can result in unscheduled power interruptions, loss of life and limbs, as well as damage to properties.
NGCP also requested the local media’s support in educating the general public on the provisions of Republic Act No. 7832, otherwise known as the Anti-Pilferage Act of 1994, which prohibits and penalizes the stealing, selling, and buying of any transmission tower and line part.
NGCP officials present during the media event included Assistant Vice President for Public Relations Atty. Cynthia Alabanza, Assistant Vice President and Head of Mindanao System Operations Rolando Villalobos, Networks Operations Division Manager Atty. Edgar Allan Fronda, Network Protection Division Manager Rogelio Bagundol, among others.
Since it assumed transmission operations in 2009, NGCP has grown its customer base to 439 consisting of generators, electric cooperatives, large industries, and similar entities.
The corporation has spent P346B in total investment between 2009 and 2023 to improve its reliability in transmitting power across the grid. This includes the P51.3B Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection project which was completed in January 2024.
