Zamboanga City Jail Starts Green Thumb Program

The Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) started its Green Thumb program to benefit Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).

SJO1 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCRC Information Officer said, PDL’s grew several “Mayana” a local plant, and sell it for their livelihood program.

He said, this is the initiative of the Chief, Unit Welfare and Development of the ZCRC. They thought of the idea since collecting and growing plants is now a trend.

Two PDL’s grow the said plants and after two weeks it can now be displayed outside the jail facility and sold at P150.

Proceeds will go to the welfare development program of the PDL’s. The said unit spend for the materials needed such as pots.

Soon, other PDL’s will do the same and other types of plants will also be grown.

Currently, there are 2,600 PDLs detained inside the ZCJ. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
