THE Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup marked its first week of action by expelling the Siquijor Mystics and suspending and fining ARQ Builders-Lapu Lapu City heroes on Friday.
Banished from the league are players Joshua Alcober, Ryan Buenafe, Vincent Tangcay, Jan Penaflor, Gene Bellaza, Michael Calomot, Frederick Rodriguez, Jopet Quiro, Isagani Gooc, Miguel Castellano, Juan Aspiras, Peter Buenafe and Michael Sereno and head coach Joel Palapal and his staff.
On the Lapu-Lapu City side, Rendell Senining, who made free throws first with his left hand and then his right, was suspended for the season and slapped a P15,000 fine.
Hercules Tangkay, Reed Juntilla, Monbert Arong, Dawn Ochea and Ferdinand Lusdoc, along with head coach Francis Auquico, were suspended for the rest of the first round. The players were fined P15,000 each while Auquico was handed a P30,000 penalty.
Auquico’s assistants Jerry Abuyabor, Alex Cainglet, John Carlo Nuyles, Hamilton Tundag and Roger Justin Potpot were also fined P20,000 each.
The league’s Chief Operations Officer Rocky Chan and other officials announced the decision live on social media, stressing the actions of both teams during Wednesday’s game in Alcantara, Cebu, were “disgraceful acts to the sport we love the most.”
Ronald Mascariñas, president of title sponsor Chooks-to-Go, meanwhile, sternly warned league officials that the company will withdraw from the tournament if such act is repeated.
