Bacolod City – Valladolid – The second Covid-19 molecular laboratory of Negros Occidental, located in Valladolid town, is fully operational after it got a 100-percent rating recently in the proficiency testing given by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz during ceremony.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Mayor Enrique Miravalles led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the full operation of the Valladolid District Hospital (VDH) molecular laboratory, that was also attended by Hospital Operations Division chief, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Dr. Maryann Maestral – officer-in-charge of the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalandoon, VDH chief Dr. Myre Parpa, Safeguard DNA Diagnostics Inc. manager Jacqueline Zayco, Diaz, and other provincial and town officials.

Diaz said the VDH molecular laboratory is now ready to accept Covid-19 swab samples, especially those from southern Negros, with the Provincial Health Office as the designated collection point.

The collection time will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every day.

The molecular lab is expected to accommodate and process 1,000 to 2,000 tests per day, Diaz said, adding that its operation is expected to further boost the fight against Covid-19.

Last year, the Capitol established the first government-managed molecular laboratory at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Lacson thanked the local officials and partners in the health sector for their support and cooperation that paved the way for the establishment of the facility that will cater to the towns and cities in southern Negros. He also said that, with the added testing center in the province, he hopes that swab tests will have a faster turnaround time for the early detection of Covid-19 infection.
