WITH over two dozen of their frontliners infected with Covid-19 in recent days, the Philippine Red Cross said Saturday their Logistics and Multi-purpose Center (PLMC) -Mandaluyong Swab and Saliva Sample Collection Center will cancel operations on Sunday (Sept 12), to disinfect facilities and address the reported increase of cases in the Sample Collection Units and Molecular Laboratories.

“We are cancelling our sample collection operations tomorrow to ensure the public that we will continue to provide safe and quality services in the days to come as we continue our struggle against Covid-19,” the PRC said in a statement.

Persons booked for September 12 at PLMC Mandaluyong were advised to either go to other swab and saliva collection centers like Port Area Lab in Manila or the Red Cross Chapter Offices and show their proof of payment, or go to PLMC-Mandaluyong on September 13, Monday starting 8am, to be accommodated.

For the past week alone, more than 30 of their frontliners, mostly sample collectors exposed to possible infected clients every day, have tested positive for Covid-19, the PRC said. “With the ongoing surge, our staff and volunteers have sacrificed their health, time, and effort, not to mention time away from their families for months, to ensure that we will be able to provide the testing capacity needed by the public to battle this pandemic,” the humanitarian agency added.

The PRC stressed it is taking these precautions to protect the health and welfare of frontliners and their loved ones. “The strength of our Covid-19 testing program rests on its capacity to provide fast and accurate results, while ensuring access of the people who need it the most. Now more than ever, as the biggest testing institution of the country, the Philippine Red Cross will always be ready to partner with the National Government and the general public in making sure that we provide test results to our people as soon as possible,” the PRC said.
