Ramos dominates Asian Junior tourney with 3 golds in 4-kg class

ROSEGIE RAMOS and Jhodie Peralta delivered solid performances by sweeping the three gold medals in their categories in the Asian Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships on Sunday night at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida in New Delhi, India.

Ramos, coached by Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo’s husband Julius, beat India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav with her 73 kgs in snatch, 99 kgs in clean and jerk and 182 kgs in total lift to sweep the women junior 49 kgs class.

“I’m thankful to coach Julius [Naranjo] and coach Allen Diaz for helping me to improve,” Ramos, 19, told BusinessMirror from India via chat. 

Yadav grabbed all silvers with 78 kgs in snatch, 97 kgs in clean and jerk and 175 kgs in total lift, while Vietnam’s Bich Tram Nguyen got all three bronze medals with 76 kgs in snatch, 93 kgs in clean and jerk and 169 kgs in total lift.

Peralta also grabbed three gold medals in women’s youth 49-kg division with her 73-87-160 snatch-clean and jerk-total performance, while Albert Ian Delos Santos earned gold medals in men’s youth 61 kgs’ clean and jerk (148 kgs) and total lift (258 kgs).

He also grabbed silver medals in clean and jerk junior and total lift. 

Rosalinda Faustino took home silver medals in clean and jerk and total lift and a bronze in women’s youth 55-kg division.

The Philippines has 16 gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals in the tournament.
