The chief executive officer (CEO) of a store owned by a group of pilots filed qualified theft charges against a trainee suspected of having withdrawn close to half a million pesos using the CEO’s stolen ATM card.
Andrew Onglatco, 33, CEO of Sky Aerotrade, told airport policemen that last May 1, he noticed that his ATM bank card was missing, prompting him to immediately call the bank to inquire of any transaction using his card.
Following the submission of official request, the Metrobank branch at the Salem Complex Domestic Road, Pasay City, allowed Onglatco to view the CCTV, and positively identified Danilo Huerto Jr., a resident of Sampaloc, Manila as the culprit.
Onglatco filed charges of theft against Huerto based on the CCTV footage that showed the latter withdrawing money on several occasions, using Onglatco’s missing ATM card.
The bank informed Onglatco that there were unauthorized withdrawals of cash amounting to P450,000, according to the account transaction history as the withdrawals were made at the ATM Metrobank Domestic Road branch at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Complex and immediately ask bank official to block his ATM to prevent further transactions.
Onglatco filed a formal complaint against Huerto, who is said to be mostly staying at the Salem complex.
The airport police launched a manhunt and collared Huerto at the Salem Complex on May 3, 2021.
Upon confrontation, Huerto readily admitted the allegations made against him of unauthorized withdrawal, and the police also found the ATM card of Onglatco in his pocket.
Huerto was brought to the police headquarters for the formal filling of qualified theft charges under the Revised Penal Code, and for violation of Republic Act 8484, otherwise known as the “Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998, and Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.”
Police also recovered from Huerto’s possession receipts, assorted purchases for an Iphone 12 Pro and an Apple watch, and cash amounting to P2,220.
Huerto is now temporarily detained at the airport police detention cell pending inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutors Office.
