Zamboanga City – The new mobile application ‘VolcanoPH Info’ of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will now provide public access to the latest volcano advisories and hazards.

In an online press conference Monday (June 21), the DOST’s Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) launched the VolcanoPH Info app where the public can now access straight from their Android devices the latest information such as alert level scheme, bulletin archive, volcano hazard maps, volcano preparedness guides and other related information of Philippine volcanoes.

“The users could identify the necessary preparedness and response actions for their safety as it will provide the users with accessible and easy-to-read information,” DOST Undersecretary and PHIVOLCS Officer-In-Charge Renato Solidum Jr said.

Sec. Solidum also emphasized that app will only be available in Android phones via Google Play store and not applicable to apple users due to stringent permission processes.

“We will address this issue to have an iOS version, to make the app PWD’s friendly and to improve the app’s English language setting in our future developments,” he added.

The app will be operational 24/7 to give updates on earthquake and volcanic eruptions.

“In our institute’s 69th years of public service, we will continue to conduct research, monitor and develop technological innovations to keep our communities resilient to volcanic eruptions,” Sec. Solidum said.
