PCG Personnel In Surigao Del Norte Is A Regional Awardee Of Gawad Kalasag Special Awards

CG SN1 Roy Christopher Ronquillo Orillaneda 007744, a bonafide member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been adjudged as a Regional Awardee of Gawad KALASAG Special Awards Recognition for Individual Category by the Office of Civil Defense during the Virtual Culmination Program of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2021 today, 30 July 2021.

Subject PCG personnel has been recognized for his heroic act last 02 June 2019 which led to a successful revival of a lifeless child at Farm Hill Garden Resort, Municipality of Mainit, Surigao del Norte. The victim was reportedly appeared to be unconscious, unresponsive, no pulse, with no signs of breathing and has no signs of life. Volunteers and the resort’s duty lifeguard tried to resuscitate the victim but yielded negative results.

Coincidentally, CG SN1 Orillaneda who is presently assigned at Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte was spending quality time with his family on the said resort while on an academic break status from a schooling when the incident transpired. With a heart of a true volunteer, CG SN1 Orillaneda unhesitatingly responded and instantly rendered appropriate assistance by helping the victim thru the conduct of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and likewise advised the resort management to call for an ambulance for an immediate medical intervention and transport to a definitive care.

After the untiring efforts of continuous compressions and resuscitations as well as his willingness to help beyond the normal call of duty which manifested with deep responsibilities, the victim was fortunately revived back to life.

The heroism of the subject PCG personnel became trending and sensationalized thru the social media platforms and radio stations wherein positive comments and reactions poured in which showcased the capacities and capabilities of PCG particularly in responding emergency situations and eventualities.

As a backgrounder, CG SN1 Orillaneda is a resident of Surigao City, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a former ambulance crew and a trained Medical First Responder (MFR) of the Quick Action Response Team (QART) Surigao City Rescue for more than three (3) years prior joining the PCG service. His trainings in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and experiences in the Pre-Hospital field built him a rescuer filled with confidence that can immediately act and help voluntarily.

CG CDR ELAINE R PANGILINAN the Station Commander of Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte stressed that the heroic act of CG SN1 Orillaneda is a good manifestation of a credible PCG in terms of responding and rendering assistance and likewise a good example of a true PCG who is Patriotic, Compassionate and God-Fearing Coast Guardian with dedication to duty and passion to serve the people at all times, place and situation.

Furthermore, CG CDR PANGILINAN emphasized that PCG particularly in the Province of Surigao del Norte will relentlessly support and committed in the pursuit of achieving a safer, adaptive and disaster resilient nation.
