A total of 96 Hawksbill sea turtles (๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ญ๐บ๐ด ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ข) were released at the Dohinob Pawikan Rescue Center in Barangay Dohinob, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte. These hatchlings, from a clutch of 125 eggs, were moved to the rescue center on June 12, 2024, to improve their chances of survival. The release, held on August 21, was led by Manukan CENR Officer Eugene S. Celi and the officeโs technical personnel.
The event was also witnessed by Freven A. Suicano from Philcement, who emphasized the importance of collaborative conservation efforts. Philcement is working with CENRO Manukan to enhance the Dohinob Pawikan Hatchery and Rescue Center’s sea turtle conservation capabilities. Additionally, French tourist Loic Samsom, who was at the site during the release, participated in the event.
The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is critically endangered and protected by Republic Act (RA) 9147, the โWildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Actโ. The Department urges the public to help protect sea turtles and their nests by reporting illegal activities and participating in conservation efforts.
