Only 1.7% Of Vaccinees Experience Minor Reaction; 0.1% Major Reaction

Davao City – Fever, body malaise, headache, chills.

These were the top manifestations felt by 1.7 percentage of the total 28,350 health workers recently vaccinated in Davao Region.

In the One Davao Virtual Presser, Department of Health XI regional director Dr. Annabelle Yumang announced that the agency recorded common manifestations of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI).

However, these are at a minimal and the individuals felt relief immediately thereafter.

She also explained that before the vaccination, eligible first undergo an assessment. After inoculation, they were also required to rest and be observed for any AEFI.

“We have a total of 742 ka [minor] AEFIs.. This includes fever, fatigue, headache, some have felt pain at the injection site, some developed transient hypertension or elevated blood pressure, there are some who experienced itchiness, others had chills while some experienced dizziness. Then there are some who vomited and had muscle pain or backpain. If we look at it, out of this 28,350 (vaccinated health workers), 1.7% of these had experienced minor adverse effects following immunization and only .1% developed or experienced serious adverse event following immunization.” Dr. Yumang said in vernacular.

Dr. Yumang, however, stressed that all those recorded who have felt major adverse event have now been discharged and recovered.

Common diagnosis for these major reactions following immunization are Anaphylactic shock and Anaphylaxis.

The DOH XI assured the public that these reactions experienced by few health workers after getting vaccinated were common reactions and are minimal as compared to those who did not experience minor or major adverse events. (Frances Mae Macapagat, PIA XI | OIC Michael Manguhig RPN Dxkt Davao)
