Colonel Romy Palgue, Director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) and some police chiefs in the province are in self-isolation after they were exposed to a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case.
Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s deputy public information officer, said both Palgue and a female official of the Department of Interior and Local Government Unit (DILG) from Iloilo who was infected by the virus attended a drug summit here last week.
The said summit was also attended by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is also on self-isolation, pending the results of his swab test taken yesterday.
Donasco said that while all police chiefs were also present in the activity, they had no close contact with the DILG official.
“It was an initiative on the part of the policemen to isolate themselves to prevent possible transmission,” she added.
Earlier, 23 staff of the DILG provincial office in Iloilo contracted the virus, prompting the agency to temporarily lock down their office.
At present, Nocppo has only two active COVID cases in the past weeks, but these are not related to the drug summit activity. (Glazyl Masculino via tdg, photo by tdg)
