Lady Eagles in finals of V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge

ATENEO barged into the finals of the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge after sweeping University of the Philippines (UP), 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, in the semifinals at the Paco Arena on Sunday.

Lyann De Guzman paced the Blue Eagles with 15 points built on 13 attacks while AC Miner and Faith Nisperos added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Vanie Gandler had an all-around game, contributing 10 points, 10 excellent receptions, and seven excellent digs in the victory.

Taks Fujimoto dished out 16 excellent sets to go along with two points while Roma Doromal collected nine receptions and eight digs.

Ateneo will take on the winner of the College of St. Benilde-Adamson University semifinals match-up in the finals.

“I’m happy because we played back-to-back games. I’m happy for the girls’ resiliency,” Blue Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro said. “It may not be a perfect run but I’m happy that the leaders and bench now know their roles.

Nina Ytang led the Fighting Maroons, who were relegated to the battle for bronze, with eight points on seven attacks and one ace.

University of the Philippines (UP), meanwhile, clinched ninth place after sweeping Adamson University, 25-15. 25-19, 25-23, in the classification phase.

Louis Gamban led the Fighting Maroons with 14 points on top of eight excellent receptions and four excellent digs while Ranz Cajolo had 14 as well on 13 attacks.

Jaivee Malabanan chipped in 10 points while Jessie Rubin added nine markers for the Katipunan-based spikers.

The Soaring Falcons, who ended the tournament at 10th place, were led by Jadewin Gudoy and Marc Kenneth Paulino with nine and eight points, respectively. Both players also had nine receptions as well.
