Marites “Tekla” Quismorio has dedicated 37 years of her life to public service at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), leaving behind a lasting impact. Known for her warmth, energy, and humor, she was more than just a social worker – she was a compassionate leader, a colleague, a mother, and a performer who brought joy to everyone around her.

Starting her DSWD career in 1988 as a Social Welfare Officer II, Tekla worked in various roles, from disaster response to capacity building, before becoming the Center Head at the Haven for Women and Girls. Her career was defined by patience—both in her personal growth and in her work with others.

“I waited many years to get here, but I never questioned it,” Tekla said. “I believe everything happens in its own time. Be patient, and what matters most is living a life of purpose and making a positive impact on others.”

At the Haven for Women and Girls, Tekla faced challenges and moments of doubt. “I’m only human,” she admitted. “My patience was truly tested.” Yet, she found that the greatest need of her residents was simple: someone to listen and guide them through their recovery.

As she retires, Tekla encourages DSWD’s partners to continue supporting residents as they reintegrate into society. With gratitude, she looks forward to the next chapter of her life.

“I’m ready for new challenges,” she said. “I embrace this next phase with positivity and strength.”
