Aimed to inspire the youth to act and think critically about environmental protection, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol in partnership with Monbon Elementary School spearheaded an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign dubbed, “Trash Talks: From Problem to Solution” on August 7, 2025 at Irosin, Sorsogon.

Fifty elementary students participated in the campaign, learning about proper solid waste management practices under Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and other environmental laws, which promote sustainable waste management and practices.

Through interactive discussions and activities, the students learned about the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste, as well as the role they can play in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

School Principal Kareen O. Mercado, represented by Master Teacher Cherelyn H. Elegado, expressed her sincere appreciation to DENR V for motivating the students to become change agents for a greener future. The school is committed to guiding their students in putting their learning into action.

By educating the youth about environmental issues and promoting responsible behavior, the DENR aims to inspire the younger generation to become environmental stewards and encourage sustainable practices within their community.
