The Provincial Government of Sorsogon, under the visionary leadership of Governor Edwin โBoboyโ B. Hamor, continues its commitment to promoting local culture and sustainable tourism. Through the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office (SPTCAO), headed by Provincial Tourism Officer Mr. Bobby Gigantone, the province actively participated in the consultative meeting for the preparation of the upcoming 2nd Tahong Festival in Barangay Pamurayan, West District, Sorsogon City.
The meeting, presided over by Hon. Barangay Captain Aries Janaban, together with the barangay council members, local organizations, and representatives from SPTCAO to discuss key preparations for the festival. The primary objective of this initiative is to further enhance the Tahong Festival as a platform to showcase the communityโs abundant tahong (green mussel) harvest, ensuring its effective branding as a distinct cultural and tourism event.
In line with this, the consultative discussions focused on various aspects of festival organization, including tourism readiness, logistical planning, and community engagement. The role of Community-Based Tourism Organizations (CBTOs) was also emphasized, recognizing their crucial contribution in promoting local heritage, traditions, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the locals.
Beyond the festivalโs immediate celebration, the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the long-term sustainability of this initiative. By strengthening the festivalโs structure, the province aims to create lasting economic opportunities for local stakeholders while positioning Barangay Pamurayan as an emerging tourism destination in Sorsogon City.
Furthermore, the institutionalization of the Tahong Festival through a City Ordinance marks a significant milestone in ensuring the continuity and growth of this cultural event. This legislative backing reinforces the festivalโs importance, solidifying its place as an annual celebration that not only highlights the local seafood industry but also fosters economic and tourism development in the area.
With strong collaboration between the local government, community organizations, and tourism stakeholders, the 2nd Tahong Festival is set to become a hallmark event that reflects Sorsogonโs rich cultural and natural heritage while driving sustainable progress for its communities.
