General Santos City – In line with the Republic Act No. 11861 or the “Extended Solo Parents Welfare Act,” the local government unit of General Santos City (LGU Gensan) through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) conducted a program to open the city’s celebration of its first national solo parent week. The program was held today, April 17, 2022 at the Oval Gymnasium.
The program was attended by solo parents from the different barangays of General Santos
City, including barangay kagawads. City Mayor Lorelie Geronimo-Pacquiao, who was
represented by City Councilor Hon. Jose Orlando “Odjok” Acharon, had a message delivered
to the solo parents, assuring them that the local government unit will continue being
supportive of them by providing proper assistance.
City Councilor Hon. Richard Atendido also graced the opening program and commended those present for pushing through the struggles of being solo parents with the use of their courage, resilience, and dedication in juggling multiple responsibilities.
The activities that will follow the opening program are the information education
campaign on RA 11861 on Tuesday, April 18, and other barangay-level solo parent
celebration activities from Wednesday, April 19 to Saturday, April 22. This year’s solo
parents week goes with the theme “Bagong Batas na Mas Pinatibay, Kaakibat ng mga Solo
Parent sa Tagumpay.”
