Forty-three (43) essential workers turned out positive of COVID-19 during reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing done to validate and confirm random rapid antigen tests conducted in the city’s borders from August 11 to September 16.
On Friday, September 17, additional 5 other travelers and their 7 close contacts also turned out positive in rapid antigen tests in Licomo. Their confirmatory RT-PCR test results are being awaited.
All those tested positive are essential workers who are allowed unhampered movement across all borders.
Recall that the City Government started the conduct of the random rapid antigen test for COVID-19 among travelers including those under essential services which are allowed unhampered movement.
Initiated by the local COVID‐19 Task Force, the move is one of the measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and the more contagious delta variant in Zamboanga City. The random testing is done for free at the city’s borders – Licomo, Limpapa, airport and seaport. (Sheila Covarrubias)
