CSC tells agencies to cut Covid risks of state workers while continuing public service

THE Civil Service Commission (CSC) has urged the heads of government agencies to rationalize the number of their staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement on Sunday, Commissioner Aileen Lizada made the appeal to minimize the risk of public servants being afflicted with Covid-19, especially amid reports some have already died from the infection.

“Please use videoconferencing, and not require physical presence po. No out of town team-buildings please. No buffet dining. Please be more responsible,” Lizada said.

To ensure government services will continue despite the reduced number of workers in offices, the CSC official said government offices could engage in alternative work arrangements such as work-from-home, skeleton workforce, four-day work week, and staggered working hours, which are allowed under CSC Memorandum Circular 10, series of 2020.

CSC also issued Memorandum Circulars No. 8 and 23 last year containing the guidelines for the absence of government official or personnel to be considered excused during the pandemic either due to medical conditions or other valid grounds.

Last, Lizada also cited Memorandum Circular No. 85 issued by the Office of the President, which allows government offices to temporarily close their premises with the necessary authorization from Malacañang.

She said these issuances will provide the necessary options for government offices to reduce the exposure of their staff from Covid-19.

CSC issued the statement amid reports of an increasing number of people, including government personnel, who are being afflicted with Covid-19.

Since last week, the number of people infected with Covid-19 per day breached the 10,000 mark.
