The number of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) related deaths in the Cordillera reached the 1,000 mark while the number of cases continues to significantly increase.
Based on the data obtained from the Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR), Baguio City accounted for the biggest number of COVID-related deaths with 370 followed by Benguet with 314; Kalinga – 97; Mountain Province – 91; Ifugao – 56; Abra – 49 and Apayao – 23.
Of the 56,893 COVID-19 cases in the region, Baguio City still accounted for the highest number of cases with 19,089 followed by Benguet with 12,035; Apayao – 6,553; Kalinga – 6,302; Ifugao – 5,543; Mountain Province – 5,119 and Abra – 2,252.
The DOH-CAR reported that of the said number of cases, there were a total of 50,303 patients who were able to recover while 5,577 individuals are still considered as active COVID-19 cases in the region.
In terms of active cases, Baguio recorded the highest with 1,814 followed by Benguet with 1,133; Apayao – 1,022; Kalinga – 628; Abra – 431; Ifugao – 351 and Mountain Province – 198.
The recovery rate in the region was pegged at 88.42 percent while the case fatality rate is around 1.76 percent and the active cases remain at 9.80 percent.
At present, the different local governments in the region were able to perform some 437,083 tests which represents around 23.98 percent of the total population where the positivity rate was pegged at 13.02 percent while the regional attack rate per 100,000 population is around 30 percent.
