Celebrating Zambo’s diverse culture

The Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat National High School (MCLLNHS) (senior high) emerged as winner in the city-organized Cultural Dance Competition and brought home the grand prize of P15,000.

Second place was the Maria Clara Dance Troupe (Junior High) with P10K cash prize while the Zamboanga City High School Main finished third with P7K cash prize. Non-winners received a participation incentive of P5K each.

The Cultural Dance competition, organized by the City Tourism Office Friday, February 23 at the historic Plaza Pershing as part of the 87th Dia de Zamboanga festivities, showcased traditional dance presentations depicting the different cultures found in Zamboanga City.

The presentations were judged based on skill and mastery (35%), choreography – 30% interpretation – 25% and costume – 10%.

The other participating schools were -Pasonanca National High School; Ayala National High School Senior High; Ayala National High School Bailes; Ferndale; and Calle San Francisco Ayaleños. (with reports from Bernadeth Lazaro, photo courtesy by Miljohn Mancao)
