Davao City – The photo “Bonding – A grandmother having fun gardening with her granddaughter” submitted by Excelso Hiponia Jr. bagged the ₱ 20,000 cash prize and a trophy as top winner in the Hulagway sa Araw ng Dabaw: #StayHome Photo Contest.
The city government on Wednesday announced that Hiponia’s photo bested more than a hundred entries which were judged according to Relevance to Theme (25%), Composition (25%), Originality (25%), and Creativity (25%).
Hiponia said, “In a time of uncertainty being with someone who matters helps cope with the challenges it brings”.
The second-place award was bagged by Czar Rod Joven’s entry “Together Indoors”. Joven said, “If there’s one good thing COVID-19 has done to us, it’s the fact that it’s made families come together to seek refuge in a place we call home. A family that stays home together, survives this pandemic together”. He will receive a trophy and ₱ 15,000 cash prize.
The photo entitled “BATANG BIDA!” by Glenn P. Magallano won third place with a trophy and ₱ 10,000 cash prize. The photo shows a child reading the city government’s Kasayuran newsletter featuring the city’s efforts against Covid-19.
The Mayor’s Choice award was given to Reah Mae Ordaneza’s entry “PINALANGGA KO”. Her photo showing a mother lovingly embracing her child while they stay home earned her a trophy and ₱ 5,000 cash prize.
Sixteen entries were chosen as runners-up and will get ₱ 2,000 each and a certificate. This year, Foodpanda has also sponsored 10,000 worth vouchers to the Top 20 winners of the Hulagway sa Araw ng Dabaw: #StayHome Photo Contest.
The winning photographs creatively incorporated the city’s call to Stay Home, Save Money, Save Lives as part of the campaign to prevent the spread of the coronavirus were chosen for this year’s contest.
The judges in this year’s contest were Professional photographer Giovanni Tabanao, Food and Travel Enthusiast Bryk Giordan Archival, and PIA-XI Deputy Officer-in-Charge Frances Mae Macapagat.
