The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro inaugurated on Friday a bulk water system in Barangay Mapawa, Maragusan, the biggest so far under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program.

Costing more than PhP 37-million, the water system can produce 90 gallons of potable water per second to serve around 5,300 households in the barangays of Mapawa, Coronobe, Mauswagon, and Poblacion, all in Maragusan.

According to Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, the project was funded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) with PhP 33.76-million, and the provincial government with around PhP 3.4-million.

“We are happy to note that according to Oliver Binancilan of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), mao kini ang pinakadakong water system project nga gipondohan ilalom sa PAMANA program sa tibuok nasud,” Governor Uy emphasized.

The chief executive added that the bulk water system in Maragusan will be the model project for all the water systems that will be constructed in the province.

“Gilauman nato nga kini nga proyekto makatabang aron makatagamtam sa maayo, limpyo, ug luwas nga supply sa tubig ang mga residente,” (We hope that this project will help so the residents will have good, clean and safe supply of water) Governor Uy said.

The Governor also noted that tourism and development projects have changed the barangay where the project was placed, Barangay Mapawa, from a conflict affected area into a safe and vibrant community.

As of now, among the tourism destinations in the barangay include the sea of clouds, falls, and Rafflesia site.

“Ang pagpalambo sa turismo ug mga high-impact projects sama niining bulk water system project mao’y katubagan sa pangandoy nga malungtarong kalinaw o enduring peace diri sa atong probinsya,(the development of tourism and other high-impact projects like the bul water system project will be the answer of the aspirations of lasting peace or enduring peace in our province),” he said.

During the inauguration, Governor Uy turned over the water system project to the local government unit of Maragusan represented by Mayor Maricel Uy Colina-Vendiola.

“Amo kining ampingan ug palambuon kauban ang administrasyon para sa sunod nga henerasyon magamit pa kini, (We will take care and develop together with the government so the next generation can still use this),” the Mayor said. (PIA XI, Michael Uy)
