The Bantay Dagat has called on the Dabawenyos to join the cleanup drive tomorrow (September 21), in celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC).
The ICC is a global activity that encourages people to clean up trash from beaches and waterways throughout the world.
Raffy Bermejo, head of the Bantay Dagat Davao, said people may go to any of the four venues identified for the cleanup drive.
These are the mangrove areas of Sitio Malamboon in Barangay Bucana, Sitio Tabok in Matina Aplaya, Sitio Lawis in Barangay Daliao, Toril, and the area between the Vales and Kalayaan Beach Resort.
Bermejo said that aside from the cleanup drive, they will also plant mangrove seedlings.
“Syempre dili lang coastal cleanup ang atong pagahimuon ugma, kundili, kung naa ta’y makuha’ng seedlings sa mangroves, ato’ng itanom dinha’ng dapita (Of course, we will not only do a coastal clean-up tomorrow, but, if we can get any mangrove seedlings, we will also plant it there),” he said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.
“Ang ilahang tabang usa na kaayo ka dakong tabang sa paglimpyo sa atong kadagatan (Their participation will greatly help in cleaning our ocean),” he added.
The two-hour cleanup drive, which will start at 6 a.m., will be participated in by the Commission on Higher Education, the Civil Service Commission, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and other government agencies.
