BACOLOD CITY — The city government here has facilitated the repatriation of 16 overseas Filipino workers from the Middle East amid tensions that have contributed to the global oil crisis.

The repatriated OFWs include four from Saudi Arabia, seven from the United Arab Emirates, one each from Qatar and Bahrain, and three from Kuwait.

Three other OFWs from Saipan and Malaysia also returned home separately.

They arrived safely through the assistance of the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

No serious concerns were relayed through the city’s OFW help desk, but most inquiries came from families of those in the Middle East asking about their situation.

Mayor Greg Gasataya, in an interview, said the city is looking into creating a program specifically to provide livelihood aid for distressed OFWs to help alleviate their situation. (Glazyl M. Jopson via tdg photo by tdg)
