Bacolod City – A tramline project in Sitio Minaluha, Brgy. Tagukon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, is now ready to serve farmers in the area in transporting goods to the market.
This was after Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson turned over recently the ₱ 2 million Tagukon Agricultural Tramline Project to its beneficiaries, witnessed by Board Members Jeffrey Tubola and Andrew Montelibano as well as Kabankalan City Vice Mayor Miguel Zayco.
In a statement, Lacson said the use of tramline will reduce travel time of product hauling from the farm source, enhance agricultural productivity and the income of local farmers.
The tramline, with a budget of ₱ 2,026,251, included the building and installation of two towers, landing pads, waiting shed, engine room, carriage, pulleys, and cables.
Its maximum carriage assembly capacity is 350 kilograms, and takes two minutes and 20 seconds per tramline trip from tower A to B, a distance of 320 m.
The Minaluha Diversified Farmers Association (MIDIFA) and Bagacay Diversified Farmers Association (BADIFA) are the main beneficiaries of the project who will oversee its operation and management.
Farm produce that needs hauling include corn, banana, coconut, fruits and vegetables, and other high value crops.
Lacson advised the farmers to make good use of the project entrusted to them, as it is a big help to their livelihood.
Also present in the activity were Central Philippine State University president, Dr. Aladino Moraca, Tagukon Brgy. Capt. Angel Fernando, Inapoy Brgy. Capt. Roberto Tarosan, Provincial Agriculturist Edmundo Causing, and Kabankalan Acting City Agriculturist Ricky Muscosa, among others.
