Bacolod City – Random drug testing is being eyed among Negros Occidental provincial government employees after some government employees, including a police officer in the province, tested positive for use of illegal drugs.

If we hear information of the presence of illegal drugs, we might do some random testing, disclosed Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson recently.

Seven traffic enforcers hired by the city government of Silay were dismissed after having tested positive for use of marijuana and shabu, according to city police chief Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca.

An employee of the Silay City government also tested positive for use of illegal drugs, after 99 traffic enforcers and 150 employees of the concerned local government unit were drug-tested.

“It’s a lesson to government employees. If you feel secure because of your jobs in government, you are expected to behave well,” Lacson said.

“There’s really no positive gain when you’re in drugs. Discipline will be given,” he stressed.

Of the 5,694 police personnel who were tested for drugs in Western Visayas, one turned out positive, regional police spokesperson Maj. Mary Grace Borio said.

The PRO6 purchased 10,000 drug kits for use in the drug testing of all police personnel assigned in Western Visayas, in line with the thrust of PBrig. Gen Sidney Villaflor to ensure that no police personnel are using illegal drugs. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
