The election of the new set of officers of the Liga ng mg Barangay in Negros Occidental is slated today January 12 in Bacolod City, announced Teodora Sumagaysay, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Sumagaysay said that the DILG will only oversee the election process, in the presence of representatives from the Commission on Election and civil society.
Victorias City Brgy. 2 chairman Richard Julius Sablan was reportedly the front runner to lead the Liga ng mga Barangay in Negros Occidental, replacing Juvy Pepello, also a barangay chairwoman in Victorias City who already finished her term.
The elected Liga president will sit as an ex officio member of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.
As decided earlier by Love Negros and United Negros political alliance, the heads of the provincial Sangguniang Kabataan and Liga ng mga Barangay should come from cities of San Carlos and Victorias.
The Liga ng mga Barangay elections on Friday will be simultaneously conducted nationwide, according to Sumagaysay.
