Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguezma lauds the City Government of Zamboanga under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe and Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja for its milestone effort to strengthen the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), as he graced the symbolic turnover of City Ordinance 2022-581 on PESO institutionalization Thursday morning at the City Hall Conference Room.

The secretary arrived in the city together with Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad III for the said event that was attended by members of the City Council, DOLE-9 team led by Dir. Atty. Roy Buenafe, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Ma. Socorro Rojas and staff and other stakeholders.

Mayor Dalipe expressed gratitude to Sec. Laguezma and the DOLE-9 for supporting, assisting and guiding the City Government to realize its goal of institutionalizing the PESO.

With the ordinance, the PESO is now a division under the Office of the City Mayor with personnel composition of its own, and no longer part of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

PESO, as an employment service facility of the government, is tasked to ensure prompt, timely, and efficient delivery of employment services under the supervision of the LGU and the technical support of DOLE. Its institutionalization will enable the office to become more empowered and effective.

The move to institutionalize the PESO was a collaborative effort of the CSWDO-PESO, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-9) led by Regional Director Atty. Roy Buenafe, the City Council led by Vice Mayor Pareja and Mayor Dalipe, who certified the ordinance as urgent.
