Zambo. To Vaccinate 694,696 Residents Against COVID-19

The city government is eying to vaccinate 694,696 residents against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) to achieve herd immunity.

Dr. Dulce Amor D. Miravite, City Health Officer said, “The City’s vaccination program will cover 694,696 residents which is 70 percent of its projected 2021 population of 992,423 inhabitants.”

The city health officer explained, at least 70 percent of the population should have Covid-19 vaccinations in order to have herd immunity.

Vaccinations will start when vaccines will be available sometime in the third quarter of 2021. Plans for vaccination roll-out strategies in the city is being readied and finalized following Department of Health (DOH) guidelines.

Priority groups will include healthcare workers, essential and other frontline service providers, and vulnerable populations such as the elderly and poor.

Recall, the Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar signed a multilateral agreement with AstraZeneca for 410,000 doses of vaccines intended for 205,000 residents of Zamboanga City in the amount of 2.050 million USD (100 million pesos) as part of the City’s vaccination program against Covid19.

The City will use the remaining P100M for other vaccine brands. Mayor Climaco is set to have upcoming meetings with other companies such as Johnson & Johnson. (R.G. A A. Go)
