Zambo Mayor Urges OFWs To Register For Vaccination

Zamboanga City – Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar announced recently that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are now considered under A1 category of the government’s vaccination rollout per information from the Department of Health (DOH).

The Mayor said no less than Dr. Manolo Alpichi, Assistant Regional Director of DOH-9, bared the information and she appealed to all OFWs in this part of the region to already have themselves listed for vaccination.

“This will give you 28 days or at least a month’s time to prepare your contract anf to help you in your livelihood for your families and the opportunity to grow professionally,” the mayor said.

This, as the city of Zamboanga is expected to receive this week about Pfizer vaccines, being recognized abroad where most OFWs are deployed. Mayor Climaco-Salazar further said the upcoming  Pfizer vaccines allocated for the region will be solely allocated for Zamboanga City in view of its capacity to store the vaccines in ultra high freezers.

She thanked the national government thru Pres. Duterte and Health Asst. Secretary Romeo Ong for allocating additional Pfizer vaccines for Zamboanga City.

As this developed, the mayor stressed that the city government remains focused on its anti-Covid efforts following the PDITR strategy – – protect, detect, isolate, treat and reintegrate, and mitigate the spread of the unseen virus.

“We are boosting our isolation facilities and efficiency of ambulances,” she said, adding that Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, head of the CDRRMO and chief implementer of the local IATF, is tasked to make available 1,000 beds by June 30, and 2,000 beds by 15th of July in line with the DILG memorandum, directing all barangays to establish their own isolation units thru the City Health Office (CHO).

She said the city also aims to increase its vaccination rate with the expected arrival of additional vaccines, and to open more business establishments and companies to help in the rollout by serving as vaccination centers. (Vic Larato)
