Bacolod City – Several individuals were evacuated as 14 barangays here were hit by flooding caused by heavy rains on Saturday night.

Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said 15 families were evacuated in Purok Mabinuligon, Barangay Sum-ag, 18 persons in Barangay Montevista, and 6 individuals in Barangay 6.

The evacuees returned to their respective houses when the water subsided the following day, Vargas said.

Aside from these barangays, 11 other barangays and areas were also flooded, Vargas said.

“Grabe gid abi ka damol ang ulan sang gab-i,” he added.

In fact, even the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient (BRO) Center in front of the public plaza was also affected by flooding.

The BRO Center offers free consultation and free swabbing to individuals who show coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms per physician’s diagnosis.

The city government has already put in place mitigation measures to avoid severe flooding here.

In fact, creeks which were previously clogged with garbage were already cleared from wastes.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has recently officially declared the start of the rainy season.
