The DILG is cognizant of the importance of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in local program development, implementation, and monitoring in order to improve local government units’ (LGUs’) responsiveness and effectiveness. Because of this, the DILG organized the program to inform CSOs of their roles in local “special bodies” in order to encourage as much involvement as possible.

Here in Iriga City, ten (10) CSOs attended the virtual CapDev program at the CDRRMO Training Hall. These ten are: United Kabalikat Civicom (UKC) 51M Chapter; Kabalikat Bicol, Inc. (KB-502), Iriga City Chapter; Association of Rinconada Rabbit Raisers (ARRR); United Overseas Workers (OFW) Family Organization; San Jose Farmers Association of Iriga City; Barit BWP-Rural Waterworks and Sanitation; Samahang May Malasakit sa Kapwa (SAMAKA); Centennial Force Foundation, Inc.; Ezer Foundation, Inc.; Philippine Association of Steadfast Scouts (PASS). They are already accredited at the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The Iriga City Development Council (CDC) has welcomed CSOs as active partners in the plans, programs, projects or activities of the local government units (LGUs). That is why CSOs are included in local special bodies such as the local health board, local school board, and local peace and order council. This will help strengthen their participation in local governance and development process. (Jv Navarro Verdeflor Jr.)
