SP Okays Ordinance On Easing Impact Of Pandemic Among Local Businesses

Davao City:   The 19th City Council has approved the proposed ordinance to help the local businesses ease the economic impact of the pandemic in the city.

Committee on Finance, Ways and Means chair Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang said that the Ordinance 0278-20 which calls for the reduction in the garbage fee, deduction on rentals and adjustment in the fees for establishment used as quarantine facilities will ease the economic impact of the pandemic in the city.

He said there will be a proportional reduction of the garbage fee on establishments based on the number of months they stopped operation during the community quarantine and enhanced community quarantine.

Dayanghirang said that for lessors, a deduction in the gross sales or receipts which are the bases for business tax, the amount which was not paid by their lessee.

He said there will also be adjustments on the monetary value in the operation of business establishments used as quarantine facilities, including the contributions of the business enterprises to the city government, as a response to the pandemic.

“This measure will give relief to the business establishments amid the COVID-19 infection,” Dayanghirang said.

The City Council passed three measures to help the business establishments due to the crisis brought about by the pandemic.

Last March 20, the City Council passed the City Ordinance 0243-20, a measure extending the deadline for the second quarter installment of the business tax, the first quarter-installment of the real property tax, and the rental fee in the public markets, Davao City Overland Transport Terminal, Sta. Ana Port, Magsaysay Park and the Pasalubong Center.

Last April 16, the City Council also passed the proposed ordinance No. 0257-20 suspending the interests, penalties and surcharges for failing to pay in the local taxes due during the community quarantine and enhanced community quarantine.  (Dalumpines, JS)
