DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones said that DepEd’s decision regarding the proposed start of academic calendar in August is data-based and with consultations. “Also, our decisions will be influenced by the IATF recommendation and the President’s decision. The window period for school opening is 2 months (from June) and DepEd will use this period for continuing learning program; to monitor facilities; and prepare learning materials,” said Sec. Briones.
Students are encouraged to go to the DepEd website and the most popular is the DepEd Commons. According to DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones, 4.2 million teachers, and learners have already accessed this online learning platform that includes lessons and tests. “We are negotiating with servers to allow teachers not to pay for its use. There will be a big change in curriculum and we are looking at alternative delivery modes of learning wherein students need not always be ‘face to face’ with teachers. We have to fulfill what is required by the Constitution which is to give education; and students, despite being at home, will have learning activities,” said Sec. Briones. (PIA/Susil Ragas/RPN DXKS)
