FORMER Long Jump Queen Elma Muros-Posadas and her champion husband-coach Jojo Posadas shared their experience in training the youth in sports and inspiring them to pursue athletic excellence.

The power couple were the main feature in the recent Philippine Sports Commission’s (PSC) Rise Up! Shape Up! last Saturday.

“Besides the athletic objective, we also focus onnmaintaining healthy and meaningful connections in the family through sports,” said Muros Posadas, who owns two Asian Games bronze medals (400 meters hurdles and long jump) and a record 15 Southeast Asian Games gold medals.

“Sports build interpersonal values that shape healthy relationships such as commitment, trust, and respect for self and others,” PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram said. “They [Posadas couple] embody these values taught by sports in their bond.”

Bringing the message that athletes learn so much about themselves through sports—and even learns how to handle relationships with other people—the episode hoped to highlight that sports contribute to character formation and influences interpersonal relations.

Registered psychologist, De la Salle University’s Nenuca Fe Canlas, discussed in the Women On Wellness segment effective communication strategies that can help couples understand each other and converse better.

Kiram, who heads the PSC’s Women in Sports, appeared in her regular segment K-Isport: Kwentong Isport talking about athletics.
