Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle was given yet another new position in the Vatican to support Eastern Catholic churches worldwide.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis assigned Tagle as the new member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches.

Tagle’s new designation was expected since he is the incumbent prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples or Propaganda Fide, which oversees the church’s “mission territories.”

The Congregation for the Eastern Churches was originally part of the Propaganda Fide, before it became independent in 1917 during the term of Pope Benedict XV.

It currently works with about 23 Easter Catholic churches and communities.

Tagle’s other latest assignments include being a member of the “cardinal bishops,” the highest rank within the College of Cardinals, and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

The former Archbishop of Manila is also the current President of the Caritas Internationalis.
