City Mayor Ma. Isabel Climaco-Salazar lauded the operations conducted by different police stations against illegal cockfight in the city despite the campaign on preventing spread of COVID-19 his pandemic.
The operations were conducted in barangay Tumaga where 4 persons were arrested by Sta Maria police personnel, in barangay Lunzuran where 4 persons were arrested by Divisoria Police personnel. In barangay Boalan 3 persons were nabbed by personnel of Divisoria Police Station.
All 11 persons nabbed will face the charges for alleged violation of the provisions of PD 1602 which prescribes stiffer penalties on illegal gambling.
Illegal cockfighting paraphernalia with bet money and fighting cocks were also seized.
Climaco-Salazar in a press statement claimed the operations were also conducted in the area of responsibility Culianan Police Station but operators and bettors evaded arrest leaving behind 2 fighting cocks and in barangay Baluno where the illegal cockfighting game was abruptly halted before the police authorities arrived.
