The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday logged 9,216 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 828,366.
There were also 598 recoveries and 60 deaths. Of the total number of cases, 20.2 percent (167,279) are active, 78.1 percent (646,968) have recovered, 1.70 percent (14,119) have died.
Five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on April 7, 2021.
Meanwhile, Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said that their aggressive prevention and detection strategies greatly contributed in containing the number of Covid-19 cases in the city.
In an interview on the program ‘Wag Po’ aired over One Channel, the mayor said that the prevent-detect-isolate-treat-reintegrate (PDITR) system they are doing has been very effective in stopping the spread of the virus in Pasay.
“If before we were able to record an average of over 190 cases daily cases, now it’s only double digit per day,” the mayor added.
Earlier, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. lauded Pasay City for its responses to the surge of Covid-19 cases and hoped other cities in the metropolis could replicate the measures.
In his report to President Duterte, Abalos said it took Rubiano a month to bring down the number of infections in the city after the South African variant was detected and led to a spike in cases in early March.
But Rubiano immediately acted and placed two barangays under total lockdown and 136 barangays and areas under granular lockdowns before implementing the PDTIR strategy.
In the same interview, Rubiano also announced that the city has recently purchased a cremation machine as a way to address a looming problem in Metro Manila on the rising number of people dying from Covid-19 that need to be cremated.
She noted that from just 46 cadavers cremated last January, the number reached 63 in February, and 405 in March which brought the total number in the first quarter of this year to 514.
