The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has installed hundreds of flaglets at the Ilocos Norte Capitol Grounds to honor and remember nearly 400 frontliners and residents who have lost to COVID-19.

Titled “Pananglagip,” the marker of the memorial reads “Let us remember our frontline heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice by protecting our beloved kakailian during this pandemic. Together we pay tribute to all Ilokanos who have succumbed to COVID-19. In their honor, let us continue our efforts to safeguard every Ilokano. ”

Families of the three (3) PGIN employees who have died due to the disease while in the line of duty were present in the memorial service that was initiated by the Civil Service Commission. Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc personally handed assistance to the families.

“This is our tribute to the frontline heroes and our kakailian who have fallen after battling COVID-19, as well as a reminder to strengthen our resolve to prevent such deaths in the future,” Governor Marcos Manotoc, who led the commemoration here, expressed.

Ilocos Norte is currently under “General Community Quarantine,” following a successful bout with the province’s worst outbreak since the start of the pandemic last year. As protocols ease, PGIN reiterates the need to still follow health standards and urges the public to keep their guards up at all times.
