Pagadian: Workshop held to update Ecotourism Plan for Murcielagos Island

The Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of CENRO Liloy conducted a 2-day workshop to update the Ecotourism Development and Management Plan (EDMP) for Murcielagos Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (MIPLS). The event took place at Mangrove Beach Resort, Gil Sanchez, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte, on September 11-12.

Deputy CENRO Heracleo M. Calasang, representing CENR Officer Antonio Z. Yanos, opened the workshop. He emphasized the role of the EDMP in managing the natural resources of MIPLS and promoting nature-based tourism. He recognized the eleven participants from various agencies, including the Philippine National Police, Municipal Administrator, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO), Barangay Local Government Unit of Antonino, Labason, Ubay National High School, Municipal Tourism Office, Sangguniang Bayan Secretary, and MIPLS Tenured Migrants Association.

The workshop featured lectures and exercises on Ecotourism Concepts and Principles, Sustainable Tourism, Visitor’s Management, Situational Analysis, Updating of Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, and Marketing and Promotion for Community-Based Ecotourism Enterprise. Experts from the Provincial Tourism Office, Municipal Tourism Office, and PENRO Zamboanga del Norte, including Atty. Kathryn Zyra N. Saludsod, Ms. Philetta A. Tiempo, Mary Jane T. Daarol, Mr. Hermon V. Abaya, and EMS I Irish A. Nogot, led the sessions.
