The Benguet electric Cooperative (BENECO) Friday formally energized its new 10 MVA substation based in Sinipsip here to help boost the efforts of the rural electric cooperative for the efficient and effective delivery of quality and cheap power to the growing number of consumers in northern Benguet.

BENECO general manager Engr. Melchor S. Licoben stated that the new substation and the upgrading of the power lines from the previous 13.2 KV lines to 23 KV lines will serve as the facility that will accommodate the future renewable energy production of the cooperative’s 3-meagwatt Man-asok minihydro power plant.

He pointed out that the establishment of the new substation in a strategic area within its franchise area will help in significantly reducing the systems loss and will translate to the efficiency of the power distribution system for the benefit of the rapidly increasing number of consumers in the northern part of the province.

Supposedly, the power substation was to be inaugurated a few months ago but the same had been delayed because of the implementation of the various levels of community quarantine to combat the spread of the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019.

The BENECO official stipulated that the new substation will also contribute in stabilizing the delivery of quality power to the consumers aside from increasing the capacity of existing power substations in the area to accommodate rapidly increasing power consumptions due to robust economic activities in 5the said places.

Licoben expressed his gratitude to the people who had been instrumental in the eventual operation of the new substation because part of the programs, projects and activities of the cooperative is to ensure the reliability of its power distribution system that will reduce systems loss and will result to the delivery of quality and cheap power to the residential, commercial and industrial consumers.

BENECO is one of the top performing rural electric cooperatives in the country that was able to acquire its Class AAA rating because of its ability to delivery cheap and quality power to the consumers using an effective, efficient and reliable distribution system.
