The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) has remained optimistic about further progress in Negros Occidental and its capital Bacolod in 2020 and beyond.

Frank Carbon, chief executive officer of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), said on Friday with the local developments in the past three years, both the province and the city are expected to draw more visitors and investors this year.

“We factored in strong money circulation, improved connectivity, and accessibility in shaping up Metro Bacolod. That’s why the business sector is optimistic for the province and the city,” he added.

Carbon said strong money circulation can be attributed to good sugar prices, a vibrant tourism industry, and the strong middle-class with extra money to spend.

After Boracay Island in Aklan, Negros Occidental has the highest number of tourist arrivals in Western Visayas.

Carbon said there is an unsolicited proposal to expand the terminal and runway of the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City, and through the access road, the airport has a direct link between Bacolod City and other localities in the third district.

The growth in these areas is manifested by the presence of airport, seaports, access road as well as commercial and residential developments, he added.

Carbon said the business sector is also optimistic that the progress will be sustained through good governance in both the city and the provincial levels.

“Good governance will be the sustaining force,” the business leader said.
