The City Health Office (CHO) has cleared eight Persons Under Monitoring (PMUs) in the city from being afflicted with the novel Coronavirus (nCoV).

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite however said her office is still monitoring other who have a history of travel to China but with no exposure nor symptoms of the disease.

The eighth who were cleared include a Chinese national who owns a fiber optic company in Barangay Pasonanca.

The discovery of the Chinese national by residents has generated panic last week due to miscommunication.

Miravite said, all eight PUMs have undergone the 14-day mandatory quarantine period and were cleared after showing no symptoms of nCoV.

Meanwhile, Miravite said wearing the N95 and surgical masks can not totally protect the public from the disease since there is a possibility that the virus can enter a person’s body through the eyes.

“A person can contract the virus from an infected hand.  If a person who is confirmed to have the virus will cough and the droplets will fall on the table or other things, and you will hold the table with your hands and scratch your eyes then surely you will contract the virus.  The best thing is for all of us to use alcohol or wash our hands regularly,” Miravite explained.

There is no need for persons to use a mask if they are at home and if nobody is afflicted with the virus, Miravited added.
