Bacolod City – MORE Power, sister company of Negros Power, is sending a 10MVA mobile substation from Iloilo to provide additional load capacity to minimize rotational load drop dropping, its spokesperson, Jonathan Cabrera disclosed.
Cabrera over-the-weekend said the mobile substation is expected to arrive and it is expected to supply power to the Alijis feeders tomorrow August 27.
Widespread power outages took place on Wednesday night, after the 37MVA power transformer at the Alijis Substation was damaged, affecting about 42,000 registered consumers, according to Negros Power, which recently took over the operations of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative.
Negros Power blamed the transformer failure on past incidents of overloading.
As an interim solution, Negros Power engineers have rerouted and connected the feeder lines from Alijis Substation to nearby substations and feeders, providing a temporary power supply of around 32 Megawatts to the affected areas.
To prevent overloading, Negros Power said it will implement manual load dropping as a precautionary measure to avoid possible unscheduled power interruptions.
Cabrera said an 18 MVA power transformer is now being assembled to replace the busted transformer at Alijis substation, which will take a week or two.
In a statement, Negros Power appealed for understanding from all affected consumers during this period of reconfigurations, assuring them of ongoing efforts to restore normal operations and ensure a consistent power supply, while addressing the challenges at the Alijis Substation.
Cabrera said the P2 billion rehabilitation and modernization plans is being readied to kick off September this year, after the transition period from Central Negros Electric Cooperative to Negros Power.
While they were saddened that it got busted before was rehabilitated, Cabrera stressed that the permanent solution is to implement the Negros Power 5 year rehabilitation and modernization of all its facilities, to avoid the occurrence of a similar power crisis.
