Davao City – Mayor Sara Duterte has ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) to give the list of identified perennial flooded streets to the City Engineer’s Office to identify the cause of street flooding and find ways to solve it.

“Katong report kaganina sa disaster office, naa sila listahan sa mga lugar o mga dalan na naga baha o nagbaha and kato siya gipasa sa City Engineer’s Office ug gipatan-aw sa ilaha kung duna nabay drainage project ang DPWH dinha kung wala pa kininhanglan ug inspeksyon ug tan-awaon kung unsa ba gyud and problema ug unsa klase na infrastructure solution sa pagbaha,” Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said during her program at the Davao City Disaster Radio.

The Mayor said there are several reasons why there are drainage blockages which leads to flooding in city’s streets.

“There are others who would close the natural waterway, where the water flows because it passes through their property. And some would make their own drainage which is not connected to the natural waterway,” the Mayor said in vernacular.

She said the city already have a list of streets where there are regular occurrences of street flooding and will be submitted to the City Engineer’s Office.

The Mayor’s order follows the April 10 evening flooding which inundated several parts of Davao City.  The flood created inconvenience to homeowners whose houses were flooded along with motorists and commuters who were stranded during the flood.
